Bio

Amber McGuigan is a clinical social worker, therapist, and mindfulness instructor. She has eight years of experience providing clinical services in a variety of settings, including schools, homes, outpatient programs, IOP, and PHP. For the past six years, she has specialized in treating adolescents and young adults who struggle with suicidal thoughts, self-harm behaviors, emotional dysregulation, and chronic feelings of emptiness. She has recently added training and experience assisting young adults experiencing manic and depressive cycles and/or psychosis.

Committed to evidence-based practice, McGuigan is fully trained in DBT and engages in ongoing DBT training and consultation. She has over 300 hours of training in trauma-informed mindfulness instruction for adolescents, as well as additional training in CBT, TF-CBT, CBTp, and ACT. She is an approved ARC-GROW provider for the New Jersey Children’s System of Care, where she helps caregivers interrupt cycles of intergenerational trauma. She has a passion for working with parents and families to support loved ones in crisis and navigate the challenges of adolescence and new adulting.

McGuigan's primary goal as a therapist is to run herself out of business. She believes that all people have the ability to build meaningful lives, and sometimes lack effective tools or knowledge of how to use them. She values her role as a hope-keeper, and treasures the moments when clients are ready to hold hope for themselves.

McGuigan enjoys singing and dancing in her free time (and also sometimes at work). She loves street festivals, home-cooked food, and being near water. She’s up for a good laugh anytime.
